Jute fabrics either in plain or twill weave manufactured by using coarse jute fibre in larger percentage than for manufacturing Hessian or such light fabrics is known as Sacking.

Based on weave & weight sacking cloths are classified into the following:
Twill  
The weave that produces diagonal patterns on the surface of the cloth. In the Jute industry, generally 2 x 1 simple twill weave is used.
 
A-Twill Cloth   A double warp, 2/1-twill weave sacking jute cloth weighing 750 g/m 2.  
B- Twill Cloth
  A double warp 2/1-twill weave sacking jute cloth weighing 643 g/m 2  
L- Twill Cloth   A double warp twill weave sacking cloth weighing approx. 716 g/m 2.  
Oslo Twill Cloth   A twill sacking cloth for making bags of about 108 cm width weighing about 534 g/m 2  
Brattice Cloth   Hessian fabrics, which after rot and fireproofing is used in mines as windscreens and for ventilation purposes.  
Heavy Cee   A double warp plain weave sacking jute cloth having 68 ends/dm and 35 picks/dm and weighing 673 g/m 2.  
 
While making cloths/fabrics the mills usually convert the sacking cloth into bags and sacks.
Generally, sack is tailored with either one side opening or a valve device fitted at one corner for filling, storing and transport of goods.
 
 

Application:

Sacking bags are mainly used for

  • packing of all sorts of agricultural products for packing especially rice, wheat, maize and pulses upto 70 - 100 kgs .
  • packing, materials that do not need special protection, but has higher weight.
 

Food Grade Jute Bags:

Now-a-days, Food Grade Jute Bags are being increasingly used in place of regular jute bags for packing agricultural products such as Sugar, Coffee, Cocoa , Potato, Onions, Peanuts, Black Pepper, Seeds, Cotton, Wool in order to guard against any contamination of hydrocarbons, which gives kerosene smell to foodstuffs while preserving for long time. These bags are safely processed/treated with vegetable oil and that is why termed as VOT (Vegetable-Oil-Treated) or Hydro-Carbon Free Jute Bags.

They are totally safe for storing edibles and manufactured to meet the international standards of quality.

Features of Hydrocarbon Free Jute Bags

  • The ingredients used are non-toxic batching oils that do not contain any compound that could produce off-flavors or off-tastes in food materials packed in the jute bags.
  • No undesirable or unacceptable odor develops after artificial ageing of the bags.

Jute Sacking bags that are used worldwide are classified as -

A-Twill Jute Bag: A double warp hemmed twill bag of 112 cm x 67.5 cm size and weighing 1190 g with three blue stripes woven along the length of the bag and used for packing sugar.

B-Twill Jute Bag:
A double warp hemmed twill sacking bag measuring 112cm x 67.5 cm and weighing 1025 g has the capacity of holding 95 kg of food grains. With three blue stripes woven along the length of the bag it is used for packing food grain. To conform to ILO guidelines, a new type of B-twill bag has been developed with 50 kg capacity, dimensions 94 cm x 57 cm, and bag weight of 665 g).

Light Cees Jute Bag: A double-warp hemmed plain weave sacking bag measuring about 101.5 cm x 71 cm and weighing approximately 910 g, striped or plain, and dry sewn.

Heavy Cees Jute bag:
Bags made from heavy Cee cloth measuring normally 101.5 x 71 cm and weighing 1020 g
.

Australian Bran bag: A selvedged hessian bag measuring 124.5 cm x 76 cm and weighing approximately 565 g.

Australian Cornsack:
A double warp hemmed twill sacking bag (without stripes) measuring about 104 cm x 58.5 cm, weighing approximately 1020 g.

Egyptian Grainsack:
A double-warp hemmed twill sacking bag measuring about 152.5 cm x 76 cm, weighing approximately 2270 g or 1475 g with 5 cm wide magenta stripes and tar sewn .

Egyptian Sugar bag:
A double-warp hemmed twill sacking bag measuring about 122 cm x 71 cm,weighing approximately 1135 g with 5 cm wide blue or magenta stripes and tar sewn.

Fiji bag: A hemmed hessian bag measuring about 91.5 cm x 56cm weighing approximately 455 g, without stripes and dry sewn.

New Jute Woolpack:
A double-warp-hemmed twill sacking pack (without stripes) with attached top, weighing approximately
5100 g.

New Zealand Cornsack: A hemmed twill sacking bag (without stripes) normally weighing approximately 1145 g and dry sewn.

New Zealand Woolpack: A double-warp hemmed twill sacking pack with 1.5 cm wide red or blue stripes, weighing approximately 5445 g, and dry sewn.
